According to foreign media WWD reports, the Swedish fast fashion group HM recently said that it will be 2030 years ago to achieve all the raw materials from recycling or other sustainable materials, which is the brand in its 2016 sustainable development report one of the goals.
It also mentioned in this report that it will achieve 100% sustainable use by 2020, and achieve sustainable growth targets such as renewable energy by achieving 100% of all operational segments by 2040.
In addition, HM (2016) held in Beijing environmental protection limited series exhibition, for its 2016 world old clothes recycling week warmer. It is reported that during the event, consumers can be idle clothing to the world more than 3,600 more HM stores. Also last year, Zara parent company Inditex Group has also launched an environmental project, including the development of new materials and a wide range of recycling programs in Spain. However, as early as 2011, HM has launched a series of environmental awareness, the use of organic cotton, organic linen, Tencel and polyester fiber and other environmentally friendly materials. In 2013, the brand also launched a new clothes recycling program, the user can leave the old clothes in the HM shop.
"In the current apparel industry, the interest of the industry is growing, including consumers, shareholders, brands, etc. For us, want to be in this industry," said Anna Gedda, head of sustainable development at HM. Living longer, the most important is the next 30 years, rather than the immediate 3 years later.
According to HM announced, in the last year, the brand used in the material, 26% are from the recycling and green materials. But Gedda said, "the supply of these environmentally friendly materials is not enough to meet the needs of the future industry, and now only a small part of the product can be made of old materials, such as denim can. However, because the fabric structure is still more complex , In the old system of raw materials must also be mixed with some new materials, and the future, we want to simplify this step out.
Reporters learned that, so far, HM has recovered 39,000 tons of old fabric, equivalent to 196 million T-shirt. In 2016, the brand recovered 16,000 tons of old fabric, their goal is to achieve by 2020 before the annual collection of at least 25,000 tons of fabric.
Although critics are saying that the fast fashion industry model is still in the rising stage, but the amount of production and consumption is also growing, which for the environment
According to Gedda, about 2060, the earth will accommodate about 10 billion people, and these people are inevitably need to wear clothes. But at the same time, resources are limited. Therefore, the future of the clothing may be divided into aesthetically pleasing series and most people can afford the environmental series.
In addition to green raw materials, the brand in the use of electricity also made some effort. In 2015, 78% of the global electricity required for HM came from renewable sources; in 2016, the brand reached 96%.
"If we want to reach the 2030 goal, the short term may also need to invest in higher cost of environmental protection materials, but with this increase in demand, prices will sooner or later decline in the long run, the face of this huge goal, We have seen the commercial interests of this, "Gedda said.
